Let me breathe a little easier
   knowing that I have kept
      from hurting you today.
   Although I know better-
      that I have caught myself
tearing one apart
   and blankly never realizing it
And part of me wonders
   if you just say that
      to calm me
         to keep me sane
      and hide the truth-
But I trust you.
   I would close my eyes
      and willingly go blind
         for I know you
      would never leave me there
   lost in my darkness
So perhaps...
   that person who I find myself
      tearing painfully apart-
         Is really just me
and my confused and aching heart
